Repumping an ion through a fibre

Here we repump a single trapped calcium ion with 866 nm light through a fibre in the bottom electrode (just out of shot at the bottom of the picture). 397 nm cooling beams enter from the side and we detect the ion's 397 nm fluorescence via an EMCCD camera. The electrode visible at the top is 0.5 mm across.
