Wrinkled Peach Mushroom

One of the most accidentally festive looking photos I've taken.

I very nearly dismissed this as a standard bit of fungi, as it was so small but the droplets around it grabbed my attention. I knew that very few mushrooms secrete fluid (a process known as guttation) and that it was pretty synonymous with the more rare wrinkled peach. I'm glad I aimed my macro lens at it because I was pleasantly surprised by the miniature landscape I was presented with.

I also chose the best time to photograph it because the droplets had dried up when I went back the following day. Then a few days after that it had completely disappeared, along with all the other, fully grown. peaches that were on the same log.
