Stoke Bruerne

The Grand Union canal at Stoke Bruerne is one of the highlights of Northamptonshire. It sits at the top of a flight of locks as the canal climbs before going through Blisworth tunnel. It was a major transhipment point on the canal, dating back to during the construction of Blisworth tunnel, when the canal reached each end of the tunnel long before the tunnel was finished, and loads were transferred to a home-drawn tramway to take them over the hill.

It has a couple of pubs and teashops and there is some nice rolling countryside around for leisurely stroll
