Purgatory
The ridge up High Crag from Scarth Gap is infamous for its scree. The path constructed to avoid this was buried in snow and ice so no relief was found until the summit.
On the second day of my minibreak I attempted the High Crag-Red Pike ridge to the west of Buttermere. I started in the dark aiming for a summit finish at sunrise, but icy paths slowed progress and i was well short when sun rose
