Fatal BNSF Train vs Pedestrian Incident 04/19/2016

KING-TV: EDMONDS, Wash. - Edmonds police say a pedestrian died after being struck by a freight train near the waterfront train station just after noon on Tuesday.

Ferry service on the Edmonds-Kingston run was suspended for several hours during the investigation because the stopped train blocked access to the ferry terminal.

BNSF Rainway spokesman Gus Melonas said witnesses say the person ran onto the tracks as the train was approaching and it couldn't be stopped fast enough.

The long, but mostly empty, freight train traveling from Portland to Vancouver, British Columbia, was going about 32 miles per hour at the time of the accident.

Melonas says nine trains were held up by the accident.
