Black-fronted tern
Black-fronted tern (Chlidonias albostriatus), Lake Tekapo, New Zealand. Black-fronted terns breed only on the braided riverbeds of the eastern and southern South Island, in a dynamic habitat, and as a result they are threatened by a wide range of factors. These include habitat loss due to hydroelectricity development, weed encroachment of braided river breeding habitat, and recreational use of rivers. But the most significant impact is predation by introduced mammalian predators. The world global population is estimated between 5-10,000 individuals.
