It sure is a beautiful thing to see 16 cores chugging away at RED footage.
Update: Just did the same transcode on 2007 Mac Pro 8 core 3GHz with 16GB RAM and RAID 5 array with 4 drives. The Nehalem did the job in 2 minutes 15 seconds. The Mac Pro 3GHz in 3 minutes 55 seconds. The transcode was RED footage (4096x2304 Res) to Apple ProRes 422 (1920x1080 Res) in Compressor utilizing Qmaster Cluster. This is an amazing trouncing. The Nehalem only has 6GB and no RAID.
Hyper threading is bad ass. If you are into video or anything that could benefit from multiple thread processing... this is well worth the upgrade.
