BAMBERG - Sun and Shadows
Bamberg, one of the most beautiful cities in Germany, is located in Upper Franconia (today in Bavaria) on the river Regnitz, close to its confluence with the river Main. Bamberg is one of the few cities in Germany that was not destroyed by World War II bombings. The city extends over seven hills, each crowned by a beautiful church. This has led to Bamberg being called the "Franconian Rome"—although a running joke among Bamberg's tour guides is to refer to Rome instead as the "Italian Bamberg". The Old Town of Bamberg is listed as a UNESCO World Heritage, because of its authentic medieval appearance.
Oraşul Bamberg, unul dintre cele mai frumoase din Germania, se află în Franconia de Sus (astăzi în landul Bavaria) pe râul Regnitz, în apropierea confluenţei cu râul Main. Bamberg este unul dintre puţinele oraşe din Germania care nu a fost distrus de bombardamentele din cel de-al doilea război mondial. Oraşul se întinde pe 7 coline, fiind cunoscut şi ca “Roma Franconiei”, însă ghizii turistici din Bamberg numesc deseori Roma, în glumă, “Bambergul italian”. Partea veche a oraşului este înscrisă pe lista UNESCO ca Moştenire Culturală Universală.
