IMG_1883 Hoover Dam

Colorado river side. Power generators are located in the left and right foreground buildings. Transmission lines exit the roofs. 16 huge power generators all spinning at a precisely controlled speed to provide tens of thousands of volts and maintain a 60Hz line frequency. The two buildings on the left and right downstream from the power houses are bypass discharge tubes. They contain large gate valves to direct the flow of water around and bypass the generators.
