Penstemon goodrichii - staminode

ADW 1445: Utah, Penstemon goodrichii has an unusual flower compared to most species of Penstemon. The shape is funnelform, and the symmyetry of the lobes is nearly radial as compared to bilabiate for most species. The other unusual characteristic is the white throat with strong nectar guidelines, and the very short stamens, which are in the floral tube rather than near the opening of the corolla mouth. The staminode is also very short, reaching just beyond the narrow tube.
