The Pleiades
I started this image in the Cairngorms in the North of Scotland in March 2010 and subesquently added more data to it to reduce noise and increase detail in the nebulous areas of the sisters. Tracking was done using an Astrotrac and exposures were taken upto 7 minutes in length at ISO 800. I used a Canon 20d and a Canon 200mm L lens at f2.8. Images were stacked in DSS and processed in Photoshop to increase mid tones and to even out the background and to increase saturation.
I still can't decide how best to orientate the image!
I'm really pleased with how the different colours have come out in the nebulous areas. The first time each year when I see the seven sisters, it always captivates me and reminds me why I love to look into the night sky. Under clear dark skies, they are truly stunning.
Probably my favourite part of the sky...
