The pier of the seaside resort Lubmin.

ENG: On the weekend of Whitsun this year, my family and I spent some time relaxing by the Baltic Sea and we spent time in Lubmin, for example. A small but nice seaside resort with a lot of beach, sand and a 350 meter long pier.

 

The small village at the Greifswalder Bodden did not have much wealth to offer its inhabitants. In the middle of the 19th century, agriculture and fishing were not able to provide a very good income. But Lubmin was also supposed to profit from the development of bathing on the Baltic coast, whose inhabitants rented their houses to holidaymakers from that time on. After Lubmin was granted the status of a seaside resort in 1886, tourism slowly began to flourish. Lubmin as a holiday and tourist destination is a real insider tip not only in summer. A five-kilometre long beach with firm, fine-grained sand and shallow water offers ideal conditions for a holiday with the family.

GER: Am Pfingstwochenende diesen Jahres habe ich mir mit meiner Familie ein wenig Erholung an der Ostsee gegönnt und wir haben uns zum Beispiel die Zeit in Lubmin vertrieben. Ein kleines aber feines Seebad mit viel Strand, Sand und eine etwa 350 Meter lange Seebrücke.

 

Viel Wohlstand hatte das kleine Dorf am Greifswalder Bodden seinen Bewohnern nicht zu bieten. Mit Landwirtschaft und Fischfang konnte Mitte des 19. Jahrhunderts wahrlich kein allzu gutes Einkommen erzielt werden. Von der Entwicklung des Badewesens an der Ostseeküste sollte aber auch Lubmin profitieren, deren Bewohner seit dieser Zeit ihre Häuser an Feriengäste vermieteten. Nachdem im Jahre 1886 Lubmin der Status eines Seebades anerkannt wurde, begann der Fremdenverkehr langsam aufzublühen. Lubmin ist als Urlaubs- und Reiseziel nicht nur im Sommer ein echter Geheimtipp. Ein fünf Kilometer langer Badestrand mit festem, feinkörnigem Sand und flachem Wasser bietet ideale Voraussetzungen für einen Urlaub mit der Familie.
