Northern carmine bee-eater

Wassu Stone Circles

The Gambia

One of most beautiful Gambian bee-eaters.

To photograph this beautiful and not very common bee-eater we had to leave the coast and travel for two days through the countryside to a small island in the River Gambia (McCarthy Island) under a scorching Sun and a humidity of around 90 %.

Only saw them once and in a restricted area near Wassu

They were a good few days spent with Isidro and my friend Rosa Gambóias
