2007-06-09d Chasing a Bee

A bee explores a flower in Haddon Hall's gardens.

Set in the Peak District, near Bakewell, Derbyshire the oldest parts of the building dates from the 11th Century, and was substanially fortified in the early 12th centry as a minor Norman castle, held by William Peverel, illegitimate son of William the Conqueror. The majority of the site was developed between the 14th and 17th centuries, with a major restoration in the 1920s. It has been in the same family for over 900 years and is now maintained by the National Trust and English Heritage.

The novel "Dorothy Vernon of Haddon Hall" by Charles Major (1902) was set here in the 16th century.
