20110416 Twisted faith

The dramatic architecture of St Nickolas' Cathedral in Chernivtsi, Western Ukraine.

Built in 1939 by architects Walter Shtyubhen-Kyuhner, Joseph Letner and Virgil Ionescu, St Nickolas' neoromynesk architecture is based on the 14th Century church in Curtea de Arges, Romania. St Nickolas' is often referred to as the "twisted church" or “drunk church” because of its twisted domes, but look again, the towers are actually straight, with slanted windows!

Shot with a Nikon D40 and a Nikkor AFS DX 18-55mm F/3.5-5.6G II lens, and processed in GIMP and Photoscape.
