House on North Road, 2007

This fabulous old abandoned house was located along (you guessed it) North Road in Yarmouth, Maine. If I recall correctly, this was the first time it caught my eye. I had this Chinon Bellami zone focus point and shoot with me, and I think of all the cameras I've played around with, this one had the moodiest lens, which really helped with this particular photo. Not only was the house and the trees growing around it just fantastic, but the tall grass and the lighting at this point in time was almost too good to be true. There was a tree to the right (off scene) that was casting a shadow across the scene in front of me which really help make the composition work even better than it might have otherwise. It wasn't long after I took this that they mowed down all this tall grass, and I never got another shot quite this good again. Oh, and while I LOVE abandoned houses and would freeze them in time forever if I could - I can report this one had a happy ending. Some years after I took this it was sold and the new owners renovated the house rather than tear it down, which is what I suspected they would do.

Photo taken with a Chinon Bellami and Kodak BW400CN film.
