Polycarbonate welded and tapped
A little experiment in polycarbonate welding and tapping. The welds were done with MEK (methyl ethyl ketone), a common plastic solvent sold in model shops for welding plastic kits. One weld is on the smooth faces of the plastic, and the other welds a smooth face to a roughly sawn face. The tapping is M6, with a 5mm hole drilled initially. They're all remarkably strong (well, I think so anyway) and will be fine for fixing the lid of the UK101 onto the machine. This is all in preparation for the 2009 Maker Faire UK in Newcastle-upon-Tyne.
