This is one of the ritual that is being followed in villages of Tirunelveli on the 2nd day of the pongal ( festival of Harvest ). People cook pongal ( a dish) in mudpots burnt using dried palm leaves.The pongal dish is made infront of god decorated with sugarcane and newly harvested turmeric plant.The cooked pongal is cooled down and a small quantity is offered to the cow Later the decorated cows/calves (painted horns +sugarcane + few money tied around the neck )are untied and are made to jump over the just burnt hay ( this is called Drishti kazhithal ).They run all around the streets.Any person can untie the money that is tied in the bull/cow/calf's neck
