Ready to Roll

After establishing contact with the Norfolk Southern 8032, a Union Pacific Bronco Escort heads east at Intake. The Bronco Escort will maintain a two mile buffer ahead of the NS 8032, keeping a lookout for track condition and potential hazards.

The Bronco Escorts have been a staple in the Feather River Canyon since the Western Pacific era. The treacherous terrain of the Feather River Canyon can lead to dangerous rock slides and washouts during inclement weather. During winter storms, the Feather River Route will often be placed under a storm warning. During storm warnings, Bronco Escorts are required for trains traveling between Intake and Keddie.
