St Peter's, Withington
St Peter's church at Withington is dominated by it's slender, tapering spire mounted on a simple 13th century block of a tower. The body of the church is one long single chamber without aisles, and again is mostly of 13th century date with later alterations in several of the window openings.
The interior is quite dark and tunnel-like with an old screen separating the chancel from the nave. The windows are largely filled with a mixture of Victorian glass, which keeps out a significant amount of light.
My visit was with work on this occasion as the stonework of the east window was being repaired, thus we removed the leaded panels temporarily for minor repairwork.
Thus I am not sure what the usual opening arrangements are for this church, I suspect it may normally be kept locked.
