Evie Hone Panel?

This vibrant panel from c1960 came originally from the Carmelite Convent at Yardley and is now resited in the side chapel at Wootton Wawen's RC church. The distinctive style appears to suggest this is the work of renowned Irish Expressionist artist Evie Hone.

The Roman Catholic chuch of Our Lady & St Benedict in Wootton Wawen dates from 1904 and has been since embellished with various fittings and glass from redundant churches elsewhere (including the former chapel of nearby Wootton Hall, which preceeded this building as the local centre for Catholic worship).

The church is orientated the opposite way to the normal layout, with entrance at the east and altar to the west. The most striking features within are the large reredos and the late Georgian Annunciation window, which copies the 18th century reredos of the Beauchaump Chapel in Warwick.

Thanks go to Fr Patrick Sayles who kindly let myself and 'ChurchCrawler' Phil inside to look around.
