Lava Party

One more from the 2022 Fagradalsfjall eruption in Meradalir on the Reykjanes peninsula.

This is from day one of the eruption. I reached the site in the late afternoon, just a few hours after the start of the eruption. Watching the Lava lake forming was a unique experience.

Not only that, but as the lava kept pouring out of the depths, the lava lake also started to display lava waves.

I have some drone footage of the pretty amazing lava waves. I still have a lot of pictures and videos to process from that eruption.

Plenty of people were still trying to reach the eruption site in the middle of the night to enjoy the show; the atmosphere was similar to what someone would expect at a late-night party too, which made the experience even more enjoyable.

..sure, let's grab some beers, hike 8 km in the middle of the night where there is no trail, and watch a volcanic eruption upclose :)!
