1968 Remembered

"While My Guitar Gently Weeps" was a Rock Ballad written in 1968 by George Harrison for the Beatles double album “The Beatles” - much more commonly known as “The White Album” - (hence my graphic take, above). The song is a powerful reminder of just how often many people preferred to ignore many of the political events which were expressing themselves during1968.

A George Harrison recording can be seen here at uTube:

In 2004 George Harrison was inducted posthumously into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as a solo artist. "While My Guitar Gently Weeps" was played in tribute by fellow inductee Prince, along with Tom Petty, Jeff Lynne, and Dhani Harrison. Prince's set is astounding - listen to the recording here:

LYRICS:

I look at you all see the love there that's sleeping

While my guitar gently weeps

I look at the floor and I see it need sweeping

Still my guitar gently weeps

I don't know why nobody told you

how to unfold your love

I don't know how someone controlled you

they bought and sold you

I look at the world and I notice it's turning

While my guitar gently weeps

With every mistake we must surely be learning

Still my guitar gently weeps

I don't know how you were diverted

you were perverted too

I don't know how you were inverted

no one alerted you

I look at you all see the love there that's sleeping

While my guitar gently weeps

I look at you all

Still my guitar gently weeps

(An extra un-recorded verse 0f GH)

( I look from the wings at the play you are staging

While my guitar gently weeps

As I'm sitting here doing nothing but aging

Still my guitar gently weeps )
