Lady With The Lamp...

Alright folks, this is straight out of the camera, no crop, no photoshop editing, nothing, simple resizing and here we are. Now about the picture...

It is Diwali today in India. Diwali is the festival of lights. Celebrated right from ancient times, this day is said to be the one when lord Rama returned home to his kingdom Ayodhya after an exile of 14 years. We celebrate it by lighting oil lamps all over the house and decorating it. Women folk (as seen above) wear colourful clothes and light these lamps. We also celebrate by burning fire crackers.

The Technique:

The lights of the lamp and the match stick were not enough to illuminate her face, so I asked a friend to hold a flash light with the bean pointing to her face. I had to bump up the ISO to 1000, as my Nikkor 60mm can't do more than a F2.8 at it's best. Increasing DOF was out of question, as the D80 is virtually unusable at higher ISOs, and ofcourse she was not 'stil life' hence long exposure was again ruled out!

BTW, I was told by a friend about a similar picture and why ,mine was inferior. I had a look and believe me, now I strongly think mine should not even be on display. This guy achieved exactly was in my mind when I took this picture, and is much much more beautiful than mine. Here is the link.
