"African Lion"

"The lion is so well-known, its likeness has appeared in the crest of English kings, in early Christian art and in the palaces of China. Lions are the only social cat, living in groups of 1 to 6 males and 3 to 12 females with young. In cooperative hunts, members spread out and surround prey, increasing the chance of success. The mane of the male lion make him look larger to rivals and protects his neck in fights with other males. Lions may sleep 17 hours a day in the wild. Once they were plentiful in Europe, India and the Middle East.
