My first assignment in the Coast Guard was aboard the USCG Polar Star. I went on one deployment, having arrived after boot camp about a week before the ship got underway. Our home port was Seattle, Washington but I spent only a few weeks total in Seattle because as soon as we returned from our Arctic patrol I went to electronics school at Governors Island in New York. Later I went to Mare Island Naval base in near Alameda, California for Crypto electronics training. So I was one of two techs that worked on the ships (after training I didn't go back to the Polar Star, I was assigned to the Gallatin.) all of communication gear including the crypto gear.
This picture was taken from the helo hanger as one of our two helicopters returned from whatever assignment or training they had that day. I was fortunate and got to go on a couple of flights.
I been taking pictures that I want to start posting, so gonna finish these old film pictures today by adding links to some other pictures from the Polar Star days. Check them out if you like, or not, I know how hard it is just keeping up on Flickr, even without a bunch of extra stuff. Thanks in advance either way. You all make Flickr my favorite place to spend time, besides actually being out and taking pictures. (family is pretty important too, lol)
