Including a possibly scarce photograph of the street nameplate for Otto-Grotewohl-Strasse. Grotewohl, born in 1894, was at one time First Minister of the DDR (East Germany), and died three months before this photo was taken.
Otto-Grotewohl-Strasse has now reverted to its pre-war name of Wilhelmstrasse. Where the clock stands and just beyond it is now the site of the Hotel Adlon (of Michael Jackson baby-at-the-window fame).
This and many other of my photographs are featured in my book "Berlin in the Cold War, 1959-1966" (Allan Hailstone, Amberley Publishing, October 2017), together with the story of my experiences of photographing divided Berlin in those years.
