Elphinstone Tower, Kildrummy Castle, Aberdeenshire, Explored

Thought I would take you back to Kildrummy Castle and its 16th century towerhouse built by one of the Lords Elphinstone on the site of a former great chamber. Accommodation comprised of storage cellars at ground level with living quarters on the upper floors. The thickness of the walls is amazing I was here for about 45 minutes by the time you wander round and read the different plaques and information that is available. You can’t ignore the historic interest and wonder what this place would have been like in its hey day.

It is a sprawling ruin, much of it in a ruinous state but what remains provides a good deal of interest. This one is in the care of Historic Scotland and they look after it very well. As I have noted earlier if you are a member of Historic Scotland entrance is free, but I did notice that they charged £4.50 which I think is a fair deal considering what you see and experience.
