RIP Mary Street stencil wall, Newtown

I'm somewhat conflicted about grafitti: while tagging generally strikes me as puerile territory-marking, I really love a good stencil (or paste-up). Happily, Newtown is home to some unusually fine and witty artists of this sort. Thanks to GlitaGrrl et al. on this one!

Though this photo is now 2+ years old, I had to repost it because I walked down Mary Street a couple days ago to see that it's ALL GONE. Some bastard developer type bought the house and painted the whole wall ... beige. It really saddened me to see. The wall was such an evolving delight, and really added so much more to the community than yet another f**king Ceaser-stoned "urban oasis" reno.

As you can see, the wall was MUCH LOVED and not just by me. Sigh.
