Tabernas is a Spanish municipality and town in the province of Almería, in Andalusia. It is located in the Los Filabres-Tabernas region and has a population of 3,679 inhabitants (INE 2017).
Located next to the desert area that bears its name, about 29 km from the provincial capital, Tabernas has an average annual precipitation rate of 243 mm, which makes it one of the driest towns in Europe. Its desert is known to have been the filming location of several spaghetti westerns. Every year the municipality hosts the celebration of the Almería Western Film Festival, in addition to being the headquarters of the Plataforma Solar de Almería, a research center for solar thermal energy belonging to CIEMAT.
