Hydrochair
Hydrochair, design Alberto & Francesco Meda
The concept: to experiment with hydro-formed aluminium in the field of design,
exploring new applications for the exceptional lightness and strength of the material,
normally used in the sports industry to produce extreme competition bicycles.
The product. Hydrochair. A seat that manages to be both sturdy and delicately
refined.
The sophisticated hydro-forming process allows for continual variations in the
aluminium cross-sections, greatly reducing use of material. In the legs, for example,
the structure relies on the seamless transition from an elliptic to a trapezoidal crosssection.
The most innovative aspect of hydrochair, however, lies in its combination of
hydro-formed and pressure-cast aluminium; a technological hybrid that maximises
properties of lightness and strength. These aesthetic and physical characteristics are
fundamental to a chair that lends itself to being frequently moved about and
stacked.
Hydrochair is produced in two versions, both of which offer a high degree of
comfort. The backrest is upholstered in three-dimensional meshing and the seat’s
supporting structure is in polypropylene co-formed with polyurethane foam and
upholstered in fabric. Alternatively, the seat can be co-formed with self-skinning
polyurethane in a choice of several colours.

Dove il sofisticato processo di idroformatura permette continui cambi di sezione
dell’alluminio, con un impiego estremamente ridotto di materiale. Ad esempio nelle
gambe, dove la struttura viene plasmata attraverso il passaggio dalla sezione ellittica
a quella trapezoidale. Ma l’innovazione di Hydrochair è anche nell’unire alluminio
idroformato e pressofuso. Un ibrido tecnologico che rafforza le sensazioni di
leggerezza e resistenza. Qualità estetiche e fisiche fondamentali in una seduta che si
presta ad essere frequentemente trasportata e impilata.
Hydrochair viene realizzata in due versioni, entrambe ad alto grado di comfort. Con
schienale rivestito in rete tridimensionale e seduta con scocca portante in
polipropilene costampata con poliuretano espanso e rivestita in tessuto o con sedile
costampato con autopellante disponibile in diversi colori.
