1. Duplicated color layer, giving me Layer 1
2. Added a channel mixer, set to monochrome set red 60 green 37 blue 22 (but that can change with photo).
3. Used keyboard command Command + e to merge adjustment layer and Layer 1, giving me a black and white above the color.
4. Duplicate the black and white layer (command + j ) and invert it (command + i).
5. Put the inverted layer (Layer 1 copy) in "Linear Dodge" blending mode from the menu on the Layers Pallet. You should now have a white photo.
6. Run gaussian blur on Layer 1 copy, I used 150. This will give you a sketch look.
7. Add a levels adjustment layer and move the left slider until you get a good black.
8. In CS2 select all the layers except the background layer (the color one). In previous versions you'll need to link those layers by click on the little link boxes in the layers pallet. From the fly-out menu on the Layers Pallet choose "New Group from layers..." (in earlier versions it'll say "linked").
9. Add a layer mask to the group (user the layer mask button on the pallet) and from choose Edit > Fill and make it black at about 30 or 40 percent. Also put it in diffuse mode.
10. I flattened the image and from the Filtered menu I added an Angled Stroke with Direction balance set to 50 stroke length 15 sharpness 1. I also add a Texturizer with Canvas texture and set Relief at 5 and scaling at 100%.
