A woman was trapped in her Jeep after a semitrailer caused her to crash into a tractor Monday morning near Hebron, authorities said.

The semitrailer was traveling north on Greenwood Road to the south of Tryon Grove Road when it rear-ended a Jeep Cherokee that was following a slow-moving farm tractor towing a water tank, McHenry County Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman Sandra Rogers said.

The impact caused the Jeep to strike the tractor, and the semitrailer crashed into a ditch.

It took emergency crews 10 minutes to free a woman from the Jeep.

A Flight for Life medical helicopter took the woman to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville with serious injuries, Hebron-Alden-Greenwood Fire Protection District Chief Thomas Linneman said.

The drivers of the semitrailer and tractor were evaluated at the scene and released.

Fire and emergency crews from Hebron-Alden-Greenwood, Richmond, Woodstock, Wonder Lake and Mercyhealth responded to the incident.

The driver of the semitrailer was cited for failure to reduce speed to avoid a crash.

In a Facebook post Tuesday, the sheriff’s office reminded drivers of the importance of sharing the road with farm equipment.

“[Slow down] and give farm equipment room to work and move,” the post said.
