It's 2009!
Sydney always puts on a good show. This year the programme was titled "Creation". This photo is pretty much the last wave of fireworks (i.e. last seconds) of the whole show. Incidentally, there are no clouds in the sky; what you see is smoke from the $5m worth of crackers. About 1.5m people turned out to see it in person.
This pic made the flickr blog (blog.flickr.net/en/2008/12/31/happy-2009/) and Explore, which explains why it accumulated more views compared to many of the more-worthy shots from the same event.
