Moose in the morning

Nothing beats Moosewatching in Maine:)

This was a particularly interesting pair. The moose on the left is a two year old male. At this age they have been on their own for a full year. They are essentially independent, but they are not yet breeding within the population. The moose on the right is a yearling. She has just been kicked out of the nest by a mother who is ready to give birth to another baby (or babies). Yearlings are lonely little things, and are not yet used to being out in the woods by themselves. Some have even be known to hang around with deer, and we saw one earlier in our trip chasing a crow.

Together they made a lovely team... :)
