Disc dog is the more generic name of sport commonly called Frisbee dog . In disc dog competitions , dogs and their human companions will compete in events like taken away and freestyle routines . The term "disc" is preferable to the term " Frisbee " because it is a registered trademark of Wham -O .
The sport has its beginnings in the early beginning of 1970, in parallel with the growth in popularity of the sport of Frisbee . The decisive moment came August 4, 1974 when Alex Stein , a student of 19 years coming from Ohio , and his dog , Ashley Whippet, jumped the fence during a baseball game between the Los Angeles Dodgers and the Cincinnati Reds , as he was going to be broadcast on a national network. Stein had with him a couple of records , which threw the dog. Ashley left the audience breathless for its sockets, and the game was interrupted . Eventually, after 8 minutes, Stein was escorted off the field . This exhibition of a national network finally lit the weaves for this sport.
