Il suo atteggiamento equivale infatti a un comportamento predatorio in fase iniziale, perché non arriva mai all’attacco a all’uccisione della vittima.
Il Border approccia il gregge con la camminata furtiva tipica del predatore che si avvicina di soppiatto alla preda: gambe piegate, coda bassa, sguardo attento e fisso. Questo fa pensare al gregge che un predatore stia per attaccarlo, e induce un comportamento reattivo che consente al pastore, mediante gli spostamenti del cane, di mandare sempre il gregge dove vuole lui.
