Trial Run
I thought I was done with this, I really really thought I was done...
Stil though, one thing that's been bugging me for years about tank building in general has been the width of the Lego tracks. The usual 3 (almost) studs wide tracks have always been a bit too wide for the scale I build in, and it's constantly been throwing my models' proportions off a little. Using twin rows of 1 stud wide tracks has always been an option, but this is extremely parts intensive - requiring approx. 300-400 track links per model in my case.
Still, trying out some narrower tracks have been lingering in the back of my mind for ages, and after getting my hands on some 2 studs wide Brickmania tracks I decided to test them out on one of my Leo 2 models.
Initially thought to be a simple experiment, the track conversion quickly spiraled into a much more comprehensive project that eventually led to a complete rebuild of the entire chassis. While I was at it, I did some other design changes as well, for both the hull and turret, and here is the (almost completed) new Leopard 2N.
