Pushing Forward

Project 366 (leap year). 50/366

The big five zero! Well, this isn't really significant as 50 isn't good fraction of 366. I'm 13% done? Anywho, today's picture are CDs of friends I've watched perform or going to watch.

On the top, is Minyo Station's Cultural Twist. Meshing traditional Japanese minyo with contemporary jazz, Cultural Twist brings out the musical souls of two world to join together. With each struck note of the shamisen, combined with vocals that conjures imagery of the rural country, each track number, is a trip to a much simpler loving time.

On the bottom, is miwaLyric's The Recipe. Harkening back to the golden ages of rap, miwaLyric expresses one's cultural identity in a society where culture is slowly homogenizing. Does one embrace their own culture for preservation or does one embrace the culture sold to them by mainstream media? In The Recipe, each track progression is a glimpse through the eyes of anybody fighting cultural conformity.
