Wild Tulips in Kyrgyzstan
Did you know Tulips are not originally from the Netherlands or Turkey. Their real origin lies somewhere in Central Asia. They grow in the wield in the Tien Shan mountain range, covering several countries including Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan. Last week I went on a research trip with a team of experts of the World Tulip Specialist Group, looking for different wild tulip species around Kyrgyzstan.
This one is called the Tulipa Dasystemon and only grows in parts of Central Asia. Needless to say, with my love for tulips and Kyrgyzstan, I was extremely excited to see tulip in the wild.
