Better Than Full Curl Dall Ram - Fall Colors - In Explore

If the narrative below sounds familiar, it is because I copied it from a closeup shot of him that I posted awhile back.

I photographed this ram for 9 years.

He was comfortable with me.

I would often sit just 10-15 feet away from him.

I learned early on that I shouldn't talk to him as I usually did when photographing animals closeup.

For some reason if I talked he would get nervous and move.

Usually, my voice seems to calm them.

So, I would just sit there and watch him and take some shots.

He would just keep chewing his cud.

It was an awesome time!

Towards the end he broke off one of his horns.

Then the following year the other side broke.

He was pretty old for a Dall Ram.

I never saw him again.

It was like losing an old friend.

PS - The brownish/yellow spots on his coat, is from eating alders.

The alder sap stains their beautiful white coat with little

brownish spots.

In the fall the sheep come down off the high plateaus and ridges to feed on the alders.
