My Gear For Photographing Loons.

My brother took this picture a number of years ago when we were photographing some loons. I still use the same setup; although many rafts later. The monpod is resting in one of my sneakers. If you have never tried it, you can't begin to imagine the adrenalin rush you get, when you glide over a snag and puncture the raft. I still remember the first time it happened. I was trying to make myself lighter. ;-) All I could think about was dunking my camera and big lens. When I didn't immediately sink I was so relieved. Actually, the rafts I use have 3 to 4 separate chambers. I always carry spares in the car. My worse day ever was puncturing 3 rafts while photographing loons in a shallow lake that had lots of dead trees hiding beneath the water. Always so peaceful to be out on a calm lake at dawn and listen to the loons calling.

Then in the quiet you hear the sizzling sound of air bubbles escaping from a puncture in the raft............;-)
