Giving a bit of help. Getting so much more in return.

A few weeks back, I helped a homeless man I've come to know send a few pictures and a letter to his granddaughter.

Today on my way to work, he motioned me over. (Sometimes he talks. Oftimes he doesn't.)

He rummaged through his impossibly large suitcase and pulled out a card she had made with pictures and a letter from her. ((Fortunately, the shelter where he stays provides a mailing address for their residents' use) The pictures included one showing one of the pictures I had taken of her grandfather on a photo keychain attached to her knapsack. Another one was on her nightstand. It was clear he had read her letter dozens of times.

The letter brought tears to my eyes as did his joyful expression watching me read it. I handed him back his letter and we hugged while the passing commuters stared curiously. He then pointed at my camera (which I always carry with me) and motioned me back. Then he smiled for me.
