With her hair thinning due to age and hormonal changes, Anushka Blau saw a pattern she didn't like. So she decided to undergo hair transplant surgery. Anushka had known Dr. Alan Bauman for many years as a healthcare colleague, and after reading up on the procedure and being convinced about the results, she decided to do the surgery with the Boca Raton doctor. The procedure Dr. Bauman uses is called a Neograft FUE hair transplant, and consists of harvesting individual hair units from the back of the head (aka the donor area) and placing them in the thinning or balding areas on the top of the head. The procedure took a full day and was not painful, says Anushka, who used only Motrin for discomfort. "I had the procedure done on a Tuesday and I was out to a tradeshow on a Sunday," she says. Dr. Bauman explained what to expect, from the first month to the first year, since the hair returns gradually.
As predicted, after the third or fourth month Anushka could see hair growing in areas where it had disappeared. "PeopIe who haven't seen me for a while say I look younger," she says.
