Iditarod Dreams . . .
A lone musher was out with 14 of his best friends, preparing for the Iditarod, (which kicks off this Saturday, March 7th with what is called the "ceremonial start" in downtown Anchorage). Once that is over - all of the mushers and their dogs will have to get their tails to Fairbanks, where the official start of the race will take place. (Usually the race restart is held in Wasilla - but due to lack of snow this year, it had to be moved much farther north).
Excitement is building now, and the fans of the Iditarod are looking forward to tracking the progress of their favorite mushers, with the aid of the locating beacons each musher is now required to carry. For about 9 days or so - everyone in Alaska will be on the edge of their seats waiting to see who is the first to cross under the burled arch in Nome. I have my favorites picked out - but I'm not telling. I don't want to jinx things.
Happy trails to all of those participating.
