Stencils 2021-08-17
The first of a series of five collages highlighting the work of some of my favourite artists in specific street art genres. First up, Stencils.
I tend to like smaller street art pieces, a bit harder to find, and often you can find real little gems.
Stencil art is created by spraying paint through stencils cut out of thick paper, or more commonly plastic/acetate sheets which can then be re-used to create the stencil in different places and even with different colours.
The artists initial art is "posterized" to create different tones, and then a stencil cut for each tone. These are then lined up and sprayed through in turn onto the surface to create the final image.
Please watch this video to see Man of Darkness, responsible for the top left piece in my collage, at work spraying a stencil.
Artists in above collage are;
TL: Man of Darkness
TM: Viki Murray
TR: Edie Black
ML: Akemi Ito
MM: My Heads A Jungle
MR: Cel Out
BL: Andy Richmond
BM: N2O
BR: Manda Lane
