The Ames High School Through the Years reception was Friday December 29, 2017 in Ames Iowa at the Ames History Center (Ames Historical Society), and it was FUN!! 71 AHS classmates braved inclement snowy cold weather to attend.

Donald Dobell Obituary

 

Donald “Don” Carver DoBell, age 62, of Ames, passed away in his apartment on December 22, 2023.

 

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 A.M. on Friday, December 29, 2023 at Saint Cecilia Catholic Church, 2900 Hoover Ave., Ames. Visitation will be held for one hour prior to the Mass. A time of fellowship will follow Mass. Burial will be held at the Ames Municipal Cemetery. The Mass will be livestreamed and a link will be available under the Events Section of Don’s obituary on the Adams Funeral Home website.

 

Don was born to David and Dolores DoBell, February 18, 1962 in Council Bluffs, Iowa. He grew up in Ames where he graduated from Ames High School. He went on to the University of Iowa where he got his Bachelors of Arts in Music Education. He played saxophone for the Air Force Strategic Air Command Band.

 

Don taught band in several schools, including St. Cecilia in Ames. Don also taught private instrumental lessons. From junior high until his death, Don was in a band. He loved to play and direct. Don was the conductor of the Heart of Iowa Senior Band for 21 years. Don was first and last a musician.

 

He was a Roman Catholic Christian who was active at St. Cecilia Catholic Church and a member of The Knights of Columbus. He had many friends at the Keystone Apartments and enjoyed Bingo, puzzles, cards, and potlucks. His engaging smiles and sense of humor will be missed.

 

Don is survived by his two brothers, Dwight (Darlene) DoBell of Rochester, Minnesota and Dan (Cindy) DoBell of Corning, New York and several nieces and nephews.

 

Don was preceded in death by his parents David and Dolores DoBell.

 

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Adams Funeral Home and online condolences may be left for Don’s family at www.adamssoderstrum.com. In lieu of flowers, memorials in Don’s name may be directed to St. Cecilia Catholic Church or the Knights of Columbus.
