Bridge of Nowhere

Bridge of Nowhere hovers over trouble water.

Part 1.

I shed a tear, as I visualise the true beauty of these islands, had man not messed with them as they had.

What WAS the Englanders thinking as they saw this same scene,

half a Century back?

This view is from the Airport Island and base... where the British RAF were torpedoing Japanese U-Boats during WW-II.

"Sir!.V.need.to.get.these.bloody.tankers.across.to.the.next.island"

Morse coded, of course..., the message was translated by relevant authorities in England where decisions and consequently, preparations were being made,

to bring in a revolutionary 'new' idea to these islands.

The islands of Maldives are arranged in naturally protected rings with encircling reefs. Sometimes One island for One reef. Sometimes a dozen. (See yesterdays pic.) A group is labelled as an Atoll. The ecosystem around the islands are so fragile, that, interrupting ONE factor can mean an irreversible disaster.

Today we know. Today we think we know.

Because it is today, the consequences of that decision in England is finally being realised in the islands.

"Fill.the.fucking.gap.with.sand.You.morons!"

Several gaps of 200+ Meters was bridged...

and a long strech of islands were joined, (Link Road) for the convenience of the British Military.

This bridge, along with its conveniences, blocked water across an entire side of an Atoll causing major disruptions to tide and water flow.

Nobody was bothered, then.

To be continued.
