Monte Fortress Cannons

The Monte Fortress in Macau was built around the same time as St. Paul's Church (in the background), in the 17th Century. This was one of the main defences for the colony. In 1622, a Dutch naval force was threatening the city. One of the cannons in the fortress scored a lucky hit against one of the ships carrying munitions, thus thwarting the Dutch attempt to take the city.
