PARSONS CHALLENGE. Perspective 1
Marriage without love
Volunteering as an assistant for a bridal wear company in Toronto, especially helping with my friend Vanessa’s wedding lately, inspired my Parsons challenge. Her fantastic energy to embrace new life amazed me. I got a chance to see close up how encouragement to change make things so different. In her 50s’, Hui was one of those traditional housewives in my hometown in China who got married at her most beautiful moment but had to depend on her husband economically ever after. When love faded, she paid dearly. After years of hard work and being abused while her husband was drunk, she suffered. Through years of physical and mental abuse, she did not even mention that to people. Being afraid to lose her position, she’d rather endure domestic violence than divorce, even though she lived in an invisible prison. Like handcuffs, her fear tied her to the marriage until she paid with her life.
